Where do you work and what do you do?
I work for AlliedBarton Security Services as a Shift Supervisor for Sony Computer Entertainment America. I am responsible for the oversite and management of the security guard force at SCEA. Specifically I manage our access control systems, patrol officers, guest services personnel, and site emergency response teams, preform safety and risk assessments, design physical security systems, draft policies and procedures, communicate with client and company management, and assist with special event management and planning. In addition to my daily responsibilities I am an active member of the AlliedBarton San Diego Districts Safety Committee, SCEA’s Event Support Staff, and then current San Diego ASIS Social Media Chair.
Why did you join ASIS?
I joined ASIS while in college to meet and network with likeminded students interested in security. While in school I was asked by my University to Chair the Global Security and Intelligence Career Fair. Through that process I discovered the many benefits ASIS provides for its members, the greatest of which I found to be is the sense of professionalism and community. Being a member of ASIS automatically demonstrates ones commitment to the values perpetuated by ASIS. After graduation I decided I wanted to continue to devote some of my time and effort to such a worthy organization. With the help of a few people, I was asked to be the Social Media Chair for the San Diego Chapter.
Tell us about you, your hobbies and interests.
When I am not working I enjoy spending time in nature; I am an avid outdoorsman. I love hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding and mainly spending time outside. If I am not spending time outdoors I enjoy working on my car, woodworking, building models, or reading. I am also youth mentor at my local church as an Advisor for teenagers wishing to make their Confirmation.
What do you like most about the Security Industry?
“Security is a paradox the more is succeeds the less important it appears”
I heard this quote while I was in school and the more I have pondered its meaning the more I have discovered this is the perfect quote describing security. Security is a thankless profession, people mistake our success with unimportance. The industry itself is only focused upon in the wake or tragedies and near misses. The old saying of guns, gates, and guards no longer proves true. Security professional must be thoroughly versed in psychology, sociology, science, history, and technology. Knowledge and understanding are the keys to successfully implementing any security program. We continually learn, grow, and change our perceptions and mentalities in order to combat our continually changing environment. This is what draws me to security. It may be a thankless professional, but through our success we eliminate tragedies and create a more secure and safe environment for all persons.
